What is the best way to get from San Francisco to Vegas?

9-10 hours (without traffic), and not an interesting drive. I would fly and rent another car in Vegas. Or break the trip... Drive down the coast (gorgeous) to Santa Barbara (lovely town) or L.A. (loads to see and do) for a few days, and then drive the rest. over 6 years ago

What are some fun things to do in or near Long Beach, CA? Will be there mid April.

April might be a little chilly for beachy stuff, or I'd recommend taking a kite-surfing class or stand-up paddleboard class. So.,.you can take one of the tours on the Queen Mary...the Ghosts and Legends one is fun and campy, and takes you to parts of the ship you don't see otherwise. Brunch on the ship is also great. The Aquarium of the Pacific is an awesome aquarium. Go on a whale watch or harbor tour from one of the kiosks along Rainbow Harbor. There is a free bus, the red Passport, that takes you to the Queen Mary, Aquarium and Pine Avenue. Rent a Segway (or a bike) and go along the bike path along the marina and the beach and get to Belmont Brewing Company for lunch by the waves or go window shopping in Belmont Shore. Take an architecture tour...the Art Deco buildings are featured in lots of movies and TV shows (Dexter, CSI Miami, etc.). At night you can grab a bite on restaurant row...lower Pine Ave...where you can get Greek, Italian, Spanish, Indian, seafood and crepes in a 2-block walk. All great restaurants. Or go up to Cambodia Town (along Anaheim St.) for authentic Cambodian food. Or try At Last Cafe, which was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. You can continue partying until 2am at Sgt. Pepper's Dueling Piano Bar and the Auld Dubliner Irish Pub for drinks and music, or grab a stand-up comedy show at the Laugh Factory (all down by The Pike), or Sevilla and Alegria on Pine for salsa dancing and flamenco shows. Disneyland and Knott's are about 30 mins away without traffic. Have fun! over 6 years ago

Good group or place to practice conversational French?

http://www.wice-paris.org/conversation-group. I also took day trips and classes in English) with WICE. A conversation-based French class would be good...I took classes at France Langue--a small school with small classes and most of it was conversation using film, tv, news, etc., and they had group outings. Teachers were great. Learned a lot--more than at Alliance Francaise, which was mostly book learning. about 8 years ago

what is the cheapest way to send ski bag from Geneva to Atlanta?

We're looking into this the other way... from L.A. to Geneva. Take it on the plane and they'll probably charge $25-50 each way. We're going on several flights though... so we may buy used equipment when we arrive. about 8 years ago

Buying a snowboard (new/used) near Lausanne

I'm going to answer my own question here 'cuz I asked some Swiss friends about it, and they said to try www.ricardo.ch. It's kinda like craiglist.org for Switzerland (they have craigslist there, but not many folks use it). Haven't found the right size snowboard yet, but still looking! about 8 years ago

Is there a restaurant chain with good food at reasonable prices in switzerland?

Manora is a cafeteria-type place that's clean and has reliable food very inexpensively (and decent coffee). If you're looking to save money, this place is all over the country (at least the French-speaking area, which I know a lot more about because I go every year). There is usually one inside the Manor department store, but sometimes they're separate. A cheap way to eat is also to grab the kebab sandwiches at outside kiosks...cheap and yummy. Also crepe and sandwich kiosks are a good bet. about 8 years ago

How does one get from Anaheim, California to San Diego if one does not drive?

There's an Amtrak train station in Anaheim. It's a 2 hour ride by train. You can get all the information you need, and plan the entire trip on www.mta.net. --Patty about 8 years ago
