Definitely go to Varanasi, it is by far the most amazing city in the world. While there, make sure to take a sunrise boat ride on the Ganges. They are also known for their silks, so if you're looking to buy a saree they have beautiful ones there. over 9 years ago
We rented a car from Delhi to Agra. It took about 4 hours (I think) to drive there, and, like all car rentals in India comes with a driver. We did Agra on a day trip, and it was nice to rent a car because then you got to choose what time you wanted to leave it. I'm not 100% sure on the price, but I remember it being relatively cheap - maybe 400 rupees each and there were 3 of us in the car? Don't quote me on that though. I'm not sure how we rented it, someone on our trip arranged that for us, but it's a much better option than those trains! over 9 years ago
Safety in India - travelling with (brown haired) girlfriend in november. Will stay in Delhi + train to nepalese border. Is it safe for her?
I am a brown-haired 22 year old girl who went to India last summer (I was 21 at the time). When we had guys with us, the locals didn't harass us too badly. You'll always get looks and some jeers, but I didn't have anyone touch me inappropriately or try to grab me. We made sure to dress appropriately (no shorts, shoulders covered) etc. Even on some days where we did wear tank tops (like at the Taj Mahal because it was SO hot out), we didn't have any inappropriate grabbing or anything. She should be fine, especially if she is with you and she dresses appropriately! over 9 years ago
