    Is it expensive?

I was there the end of March 2011. I stayed in a clean and central hotel for $75/night, rented a car for $55/day plus insurance and less than $15/night for good dinners. I considered it down right inexpensive if you are careful and do your research. Yes, the economy has been damaged quite a bit. So it is a great time to visit plus you will be spending greatly needed dollars. Have fun and do good deeds. What a deal. A friend who spent 5 days there last year was stunned when I told him what I paid. Costs for tourist amenities such as hotel, car & food have fallen considerably. I found the interior landscape to be much more interesting than the coast or Reykjavik. Don't miss the blue Lagoon; it remains expensive ($45) but quite a unique experience. The interior landscape is surreal. Avoid guided tours if you are cost conscious. Be prepared for occasional heavy winds. The temperature is usually relatively mild compared to the name ICE-land, but it can change quickly and sharply. I used layering having gone through my closets to chose clothes that I didn't care about. My next stop was sunny Spain so I simply left a fair amount of clothes behind. I saw other visitors do the same; apparently it is a common practice. No need to be fashion conscious. Icelanders that I met were well educated (30% have gone to college) and with a sense of humor -- they call their locally brewed vodka Reykja ( Wreck ya -- get it?). It is actually quite good. over 8 years ago

Where are good places to go on a motorcycle journey around Finland in the summer?

Many years ago I took a motorcycle across southern Finland, looping around a quite large lake in the southeast. Riding through the tall, dense forests that surrounded the lake was transformative. One August afternoon there was a light snowfall while we were out on the fort in the Helsinki harbor. My friend who was with me commented: "We Finns, we like our summers. They are short but there is little snow.". Thinking of her comment always brings a smile to my face. over 8 years ago
