My mum is due to fly to Hurghada in Egypt this Friday (4th Feb) - do you think it will be safe?

I don't recommend it. All foreign offices are warning against all non-essential travel to Egypt and foreign nationals are being told to leave. My friend (British) was evacuated from Hurghada yesterday after looters tore her house apart and robbed her. Change her flight to another time... almost 9 years ago

My partner and i are booked to go to Luxor at the start of March. What should we do?

Luxor is a long way from Cairo and if that is your only stop then I wouldn't make a decision just yet. We still have all of our trips running, with the exception of Cairo short trips, and our crew on the ground say nothing is happening anywhere outside of Cairo City. I think it is a decision you can make the week before. As long as you have adequate travel insurance it is not a drama to cancel at the last minute. I am heading back there in April with 9 others and we haven't changed a thing yet - too early to judge. :) almost 9 years ago

How can i use the worldnomads in South Africa (Joanesburgo and Capetown) for hospital?

You will have to contact World Nomads and read their policy documents. Each case is judged on its merit and they may not be able to give you exact information on hypothetical scenarios in advance. almost 9 years ago

Is the crossing from Tanzania to Kenya easy?

Which border? How are you intending to travel? ie: local bus, private tour... What nationality are you? THEN I can tell you how easy or hard it is. :) Cheers, Tania about 9 years ago

Does anyone have opinions about Rovos Rail?

Hey there, Rovos Rail is the top end of luxury rail travel in Africa. The food was fantastic, the service was absolutely unbelievable and if you enjoy luxury train journeys then it is well worth the trip. It really is that 'olde worlde' style of colonial travel.I recommend it!! about 9 years ago

Traveling to eygpt how much is the expected backpacking budget for 5 places from alexandria to abu simbel

Hi there. No one can really answer this question without knowing where you want to go and when, and how you want to move from place to place. Decent 3 star hotel accommodation averages around EGP200pppn in most places if you know where to look. Trains are one of the cheaper options for transport. In many cases it is also cheap to book a guided tour with a itinerary that covers your chosen highlights and then you don't have to worry about anything! :) about 9 years ago

Are shops and tourist destinations closed for Christmas?

Not really, no. Being a christian holiday you will find a few shops (owned by christian people) closed but the majority of the shops will be open and the only time I have ever seen a tourist destination closed is during Ramadan and Eid and then only for short periods of time. I guess it depends on where you are in Jordan but short answer is... no. :) about 9 years ago

How is Hurghada in Egypt as a tourist/family destination?

Personally I wouldn't take my kids to Hurghada for a family holiday. There are activities for kids but they revolve around hotel based programmes (in which case you would be staying at one of the higher quality hotels) and there is no beach to speak of unless it is a private beach at a quality hotel - both of which mean a higher accommodation price. Most water activities for grown ups are conducted from a boat and it is my experience that a full day on a boat with the kids is hard work and tiring - not the relaxing time you would imagine. As a tourist destination Hurghada is perfect especially if you are a diver. If easy, safe and moderately priced is your goal for a family holiday I would recommend Dahab. about 9 years ago
